How did your Cookie Journey begin?
My cookie journey began when I had just had my first child, my son, Jack. He was born four weeks premature, so we were fairly isolated at home for the first few months. I’ve always been a baker and had been wanting to try my hand at decorative cookies. Right when I wanted to start, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and it was put on the back burner until I regained function of my dominant hand. In the meantime, I became obsessed with watching cookie decorating videos on my phone. I finally gave it a try and fell in love! I’ve been doing it ever since.
What’s your favorite holiday/season to decorate Cookies for?
My favorite holiday to decorate cookies for is Christmas. (Halloween is a close second.) But Christmas is my favorite holiday and I love to create fun and whimsical designs to celebrate.
What’s your go-to Cookie Cutter shape?
My go-to cookie cutter shape is a hexagon. It’s always the perfect addition to a set. I’m also very particular with my straight edged cookies; before decorating, I will use my micro plane to make sure the edges are totally straight.
What’s your go-to Cookie Stencil?
My go-to cookie stencil would have to be your Polka Dots or your Skinny Stripes. The polka dots add the right amount of decoration, and the stripes are so versatile. I love that I can use it to make a gingham/buffalo check pattern.
Besides Cookie Stencils of course, 😊 what’s one cookie decorating tool that you cannot live without?
The one decorating tool I couldn’t live without is a tie between tipless piping bags and my scribe. I couldn’t possibly just pick one.
What are your three favorite icing colors?
My three favorite icing colors are white, any neutral color, and pastels. I love seeing vibrant colors that other cookiers create, but my favorites are neutrals and pastels. The more muted colors are my jam!
What’s the largest single cookie order that you’ve ever received?
The largest single order I’ve done to date is 55 dozen. And surprisingly, I survived! It helps to be extremely organized and have an assembly line. Breaking it up into smaller manageable amounts and going from start to finish really helps the process feel less daunting.
What’s the craziest / most unique set of Cookies you’ve ever been asked to make?
The most unique cookies I’ve been asked to make would have to be cookies match the airBNB they rented for their daughter’s birthday weekend celebration. It made my neutral loving dreams come true! Or a spaghetti and meatballs birthday theme for a set of twins. It was adorable!
What theme / cookie style have you always wished to receive an order for?
Honestly, every cookie set I receive an order request for I get equally excited to create. I love that my customers always have fantastic themes for their celebrations and I’m just so grateful that I can create delicious decorative treats for them.
If you could share one piece of advice to a new Cookier, what would it be?
The one piece of advice I could give a new Cookier is don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone has to grow at their own pace. Don’t fall into the trappings and pressures of social media. Work on your skills, take classes, and practice, practice, practice. That’s the only way you get better. I’m constantly learning new techniques and it’s my favorite thing!
